The Sydney Apia International is a build up tournament for the Australian Open. In Men’s draw we do not have any top 10, as they are saving their energies for the first slam of the season.
World no.14 John Isner will be the top seed followed by Gilles Simon, Andreas Seppi and Fernando Verdasco.
Tomic and Dimitrov
We are going to get some interesting indications from Tomic and Dimitrov that found their best tennis in warm up events in Perth and Brisbane.
Berard is coming from a very solid Hopman Cup where he defeated Haas and Djokovic (!). Tomic will play fellow countryman Marinko Matosevic in the first round. This will be an “intense” match as Marinko “stole some limelight” from Tomic that wants to be considered as the Australian no.1.
Dimitrov will try to confirm his best tennis especially now that he has reached the semifinals in Brisbane where he has upset Raonic and Melzer in straight (and smooth) sets.
Last year’s winner was Jarkko Nieminem that defeated Benneteau 6-2 7-5
