Serena Williams proves once again that she is serious in conquering the fashion world. This was after she released a vegan leather line for more environmentally-conscious consumers. According to her, it is her way of helping inspire people to take part in saving the environment. She explained that it was her own little way of helping eco-friendly efforts.

Previous forays into fashion by Serena Williams

Serena Williams has been more active in the fashion world in the past year. Her vegan fashion pieces are part of a spring fashion collection for S by Serena. Inspired by Africa, the giraffe print is among the most popular motifs in the collection.

When asked about her choice to base the designs on Africa, she said that the continent is one of her favorite places to travel to. She also said that she wanted to show off to her fans that she worked hard to understand and study fashion designing.

Last September, Williams launched her first collection for S by Serena during the New York Fashion Week. The collection was inspired by strong women like Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Williams’ own sister Venus. The launch was a star-studded affair that saw the attendance of #MeToo movement founder Tarana Burke and Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki.

The tennis superstar also launched her first jewelry line late last year. Simply called Serena Williams Jewelry, she collaborated with diamond manufacturing giant K.P. Sanghvi for the pieces. She also took pride in the fact that the jewels used are ethically-sourced and conflict-free.

Williams’ March 2020 tournaments

Meanwhile, Serena Williams will be back to competing in the WTA Tour in March. The 2020 BNP Paribas Open will be the first tournament the 23-time Grand Slam winner will be participating in for March. She has been a regular presence in the tournament over the years, even recording two wins.

Right after the 2020 BNP Paribas Open, Williams will then fly to Florida for the 2020 Miami Open. The Miami tournament is the first Premier Mandatory event in the WTA calendar so naturally, it has attracted big names in the WTA Tour. Among them are current world no. 1 Ashleigh Barty and rising American star Coco Gauff.

The BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open will be Williams’ best chances to make up for her disappointing finish in the Australian Open. It can be remembered that she lost to China’s Qiang Wang 6-4 6-7 7-5 in the tournament’s third round.

The 2020 BNP Paribas Open will be on Monday, March 09, to Sunday, March 22, in Indian Wells, California. The 2020 Miami Open, on the other hand, will be in Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium from Monday, March 23, to Sunday, April 05.
