Murray survives a scare in Brisbane

Andy had an easy match on paper… but that was only on paper. Few people would have expected the 2012 US Open champion to endure a 3 setters with the Australian qualifier and world no.199 in the first round of Brisbane international. Eventually, the Scott managed to win 6-1 5-7 6-3

From Murray

“It was a real high-quality match,” Murray said. “I expected a tough match. He is a lot better than his ranking, that is for sure.”

Andy said that Lendl was expecting a very comfortable win, but…  “He was obviously expecting me to come through, but it was very nearly a different story. The depth of the game now is so, so strong. None of the matches are easy. It was a bit different back in Ivan’s day where they could kind of cruise a little bit the first couple rounds.”

Andy will play Istomin in the quarters. This will be the first match between the two.

Dimitrov – Raonic 6-3 6-4

Grigor Dimitrov posted a very good victory against the seed no.2 Milos Raonic. Grigor managed to win all his points on first serve (26 out of 26) to convert 2 break points out of 3. The Bulgarian also scored more aces than Raonic (10 vs.4).

Grigor will play Melzer in the quarter-finals. Head to head is 1-0 for Dimitrov the won their only match last year in Paris (first round) 7-6 (2) 6-2.
