As one of the most popular tennis players in the world, Novak Djokovic invites a lot of media attention. The fame that comes with his stardom, however, is seen as a big challenge for his wife, Jelena Djokovic.
In an interview with Vesti-Online, she said that the negative press attention trained on her impacts her life. She explained how uncomfortable she feels about always being followed by the celebrity spotlight.
She also described how she does not appreciate the comments about her physical appearance. According to her, she tries her best to not care about what people expect of her. Indicating how more free she feels, Jelena recently uploaded a picture of her and Novak on Instagram. They are shown enjoying a day at the beach while laughing at each other.
Who is Jelena Djokovic?
Jelena Djokovic has been a loyal partner to Novak Djokovic over the years. The two, who married in 2014, have been in a relationship for 15 years. They held their wedding in Aman Sveti Stefan, a luxury resort in Montenegro. They met in 2005, just before Djokovic started to rise in the professional tennis world.
She finished degrees from Milan’s Bocconi University and the International University of Monaco. After graduation, she established her own firm, Jelena Ristic Consulting. Now, she serves as the director of the Novak Djokovic Charity Foundation. She has a major role in advocating for the causes that her husband supports.
Among the things they want to improve is the Serbian education system. They also want to make sure that Serbian children have access to improved lives. So far, she has helped lead the foundation to finishing 37 projects. She also partners in taking care of their two children. Currently, they have a son, Stefan, and daughter, Tara.
Novak Djokovic on his youth
In other news, Novak Djokovic recently confessed that he did not have the easiest time growing up in his home country of Serbia. He talked about how difficult it was as a young person to be in Serbia during the ‘90s. He discussed the struggles in accessing food, water, and other basic necessities because of the embargo. Serbia also experienced years of civil wars during that time, which made things even harder. He credits his experiences as a young person as a big factor in his success. He said that it made him more motivated to become the tennis icon that he is now.
The world no. 2 said this during an interview after his Australian Open victory earlier this month. It was his eighth title in the Australian Open, which means he now holds the most number of wins in the Grand Slam competition. Swiss rival Roger Federer is close behind Djokovic with six trophies. Now, Djokovic is a bona fide star in the tennis courts. He has amassed a total of $140 million in career prize money after his win in Melbourne Park.
