Maria Sharapova announces her retirement from tennis! That came not as much as s surprise as the Russian beauty as she has been struggling for long with all sort of injuries and she finally decided to call it a career.
Maria won 5 slams and 36 titles. She won all slam once with the exception of the Roland Garros that she conquered twice in 2012 and 2014. Probably Maria’s most astonishing feat was when she won Wimbledon in 2014 when she was just 17.
Unfortunately, Sharapova’s career was stained by her ban for doping after she tested positive to meldonium back in January 2016. That sidelined Maria for 15 months. She won her last title in Tianjin after beating Sabalenka in the final.
Maria announced her retirement with a statement of Vanity and Fair. Maria has launched many ventures and therefore her next steps will be most probably in the business world.
Tennis showed me the world—and it showed me what I was made of. It’s how I tested myself and how I measured my growth. And so in whatever I might choose for my next chapter, my next mountain, I’ll still be pushing. I’ll still be climbing. I’ll still be growing. pic.twitter.com/kkOiJmXuln
