Sascha Bajin has had some major successes in his coaching career. The German coach won the 2018 WTA Coach of the Year award for his work with Naomi Osaka. Sascha guided the Japanese star at Grand Slam titles at the US and Australian Opens. However, they agreed to part ways after she won in Australia. Since then, the German coach has worked with several players. One of his most promising clients is Ukrainian teenager Dayana Yastremska.

Sascha and Dayana started their partnership last November

Dayana announced that she would be working with Sascha last November. The 19-year-old has won three singles titles in her career. She won the Hua Hin and Strasbourg Opens last year, adding to her Hong Kong Open win in 2018. After linking up with Sascha, many expected the Ukrainian player to take the next step in her development. However, things have gotten off to a slow start for the pair. This season, Dayana’s best performance was at the Adelaide Open where she reached the final but lost to Ashleigh Barty. The 19-year-old had a disappointing run at the Australian Open, reaching the second round before losing to Caroline Wozniacki.

Keep working hard, it will all come together

Currently 26th in the rankings, Dayana had another disappointing result at the Dubai Tennis Championships. The 19-year-old lost to Veronika Kudermetova in the first round of the tournament. Despite her struggles, there is still time for the Ukrainian player to turn around her fortunes. Her coach took to social media to encourage her after her latest setback. In a heartfelt post on Twitter, Sascha encouraged his protégé to keep working hard and said that she would eventually have a good run of form. “Hit one more shot, take one more step, run one more lap, fight one more round. That’s all there is, eventually, it will all come together.” Sascha also thanked his supporters and those close to him for their support.

The German coach has grown fond of his Dayana and recently came to her defense after Wozniacki accused her of time-wasting during their match at the Australian Open. The former world number one said the teenager had tried to disrupt her rhythm after she took a medical time when the score was 5-4 in Wozniacki’s favor. Sascha took to social media to defend Dayana. “Just to shut some people up and end this useless convo. Dayana was really struggling for days with her leg.”
