The 2020 Olympics will begin on 24th July in Tokyo, Japan. As one of the most popular global events, the world’s attention will be on the Asian country and many will expect Japan to host the event successfully. The country’s Olympics organizing committee is preparing diligently and it recently released a video unveiling the motto for this year’s games. Naomi Osaka was the main star in the video.

Osaka unveils this year’s Olympics motto

In the short video, Osaka starts her journey to the stadium in a car that drives through the streets of Tokyo. She serves as the narrator in the video and explains the importance of sports in uniting people from different ethnicities and nationalities. At the end of the video, Osaka announces the motto for this year’s Olympic Games which is “United by Emotion.” Tournament organizers said they chose this slogan to show how sports brings people together and allows them to connect with one another despite their differences. With Osaka identifying with two different ethnicities, she was perfect for the lead role in the video advertisement.

The Japanese star will be the face of diversity in Tokyo

The 22-year-old has a Japanese mother and a Haitian father. She was born in Japan but her parents later moved to the United States when she was three years old. Last year, Osaka gave up her United States citizenship as required by Japanese law so she could gain full citizenship in the country. The former world number one is now serving an ambassadorial role as her country prepares to host the Olympics. She will try to win the tennis gold medal in her home country and had suggested that she would like to play in the mixed doubles competition with Japanese star, Kei Nishikori. However, the home fans will have to wait, as their two tennis superstars have not officially announced that they will play together.

Osaka has lately been busy with various projects off the court. In addition to the Olympic video, the two-time Grand Slam champion is currently filming a documentary about her life. The biography will air on Netflix. It will document her journey from last year’s US Open to this year’s Olympics. The Japanese star also launched her first fashion design collection at the New York Fashion Week last week. However, on the court, Osaka has struggled to maintain the excellent form she has shown in the past. She failed to defend her Australian Open title last month after she lost to Coco Gauff in the third round of the tournament
