Strange relationships inside the Argentine Davis Cup team.
Del Potro and Argentina
Juan Martin has always been keen on playing for his country. This summer he won a very emotional bronze medal at the Olympic Games against Djokovic.
In September he played the Davis Cup vs. Stepanek even if he was injured to his wrist (and he won) to then not play against Berdych because of the pain.
Delpo is superloved in Argentina to play also a couple of exhibition matches against King Roger few weeks ago.
Not playing Germany
But something got wrong with the Davis Cup team.
According to Martin Jaite, Argentine captain, “We sent emails to all the players likely to be selected and asked them to respond before December 10. Del Potro didn’t answer. On December 20, he then sent me an SMS to tell me that he was not available.”
This uncovered some internal problem, but the captain tried to play everything down “The relationship with Del Potro isn’t broken, the doors of the team are always open to him.”
