Just few days ago, Henry Laconte has been quite vocal about Monfils’ situation to state that he could even retire from tennis.
The concern is now widespread. According to L’Equipe it is still unclear if Gael is going to play the Australian Open. The 26-year-old has recently split with his coach Patrick Chamagne, and his physiotherapist.
Gael has been unreachable for several days. Chamagne confirms his state of confusion saying “he is hiding but I would not be surprised if it was a return to hell.”
Gaels’ agent Nicolas Lemperin denies the allegations saying that Monfils just got some days off.
“I speak to him three or four times a day,” Lemperin said. “We just bought tickets to the Australian Open.”
