Why Sofia Kenin will win many slams like Serena Williams. TOP COACH

Sofia Kenin’s Australian Open victory was the greatest moment of her career so far. The 21-year-old defeated Garbine Muguruza in the final to clinch her first major title. The American had defeated world number one Ashleigh Barty in the semifinals in what was widely regarded as an upset victory. However, former tennis coach Rick Macci was not surprised by Kenin’s form in Australia.

Coach Rick expected Kenin’s Grand Slam victory

Rick coached Kenin during the early stages of her career. Her father, Alex, took her to the Rick Macci Tennis Academy following the tennis coach’s success working with Serena and Venus Williams during the early stages of their careers. Other players who have worked with the experienced coach include Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, and Maria Sharapova. After Kenin won her first Grand Slam, Rick has revealed that he expected the young American to win a major title by her twenties. In a recent interview, the American coach revealed that upon working with Kenin, he felt she was destined for greatness. “I knew it straight away that she’d be top 10 in the world by age 20 and win many grand slams.”

Sofia might get 15 before she’s done

Kenin is currently seventh on the WTA rankings. Her former coach says that the Australian Open champion is only beginning to realize her potential. From a young age, Rick observed that she had great mental strength. “She came to me at five years old and just the way she has locked in already mentally was really startling.” With the young American having won her first Grand Slam, Rick has made some more predictions about his former protégé. The American coach expects Kenin to be the world number one by the summer. In the long term, Rick says she will be in the top five for the next 10 years. Kenin’s former coach thinks she can win 15 major titles by the end of her career. “People don’t understand what they are looking at, I can see her winning double figures grand slams, she might get 15 before she’s done.”

The Australian Open champion played in the Fed Cup qualifiers last week. Sofia helped Team USA book its spot at the Fed Cup Finals set for April. The 21-year-old was the highest-ranked member of Team USA, ranking above Serena who also played in the qualifiers. Kenin will be in action at the Dubai Tennis Championships next week.
