Monfils gets a wild card to play the 2013 ATP in Auckland

Good new for tennis as Gael Monfils is trying to stage his comeback.

2012 has been a tricky year for the Frenchman as he has never fully recovered from his knee injury. Big personalities such has Henry Leconte have even doubts about his comeback.

So Gael slipped to the 77th spot in the ATP rankings from being no.7 and it was time to do do something about it!

Auckland

Gael accepted the wild cars to play in New Zealand and join top players such as Ferrer and Haas. The organisation is elated by having Gael on board.

“When we named the full field a couple of weeks ago, I was delighted to see the ranking cut off as low as 61. Adding Monfils to that lineup is the icing on the cake. He is often described as the player, outside the big four, who has the game to win a Grand Slam. He loves to play up to the crowd.” said Karl Budeg, the tournament director.

The tournament will take place the 7th of January and last year’s champion was Ferrer (3rd title in Auckland) over Rochus

Time to see again the  flying Frenchman on the court? We hope so!
