After such a fantastic year Serena collects another important recognition.
Once again this downfall of awards makes the situation a bit awkward for the WTA rankings as Serena is not world no.1 and not even world no.2!
So the 3rd place in the rankings didn’t prevent the French daily L’Equipe to chose her as the best Sportswoman of 2012… not only in tennis, but in all sports!
The Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt also won the award sa the Sportsman of the year.
This was the first time for Serena to win the award that has been handed by Martina Hingis.
Serena in 2012 won Wimbledon, the US Open, the Olympic Games and the WTA Championship final.
