Sofia Kenin shocked the tennis community after winning the Australian Open last week. However, as per her father’s words, Alex,  people didn’t give Sofia the credit she deserved before conquering her first slam. Sofia’s dad maintained that the hype around Coco Gauff was a bit too much and it was unfair that her daughter didn’t receive the same attention because she achieved much more than the 15-year-old.

On one side, it is normal that Coco receives this kind of attention as it’s rather exceptional that a person of her age can play against the very best at the same level. On the other, Alex is also right if you have a look at Sofia’s performance in 2019. Kenin won 3 tournaments last year and she reached the final in Acapulco. In addition, Sofia reached the semifinals in the prestigious events in Toronto and Cincinnati, beating top players such as Elina Svitolina (twice!), the current world no.1 Ashleigh Barty, and Naomi Osaka (that had to withdraw in the decider).
