How Kenin’s father motivated Sofia using Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu as examples

Sofia Kenin has just won her first slam at the Australian Open with the decisive help of her father Alex that used Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu’s achievements to inspire his daughter.

Naomi surprised the tennis world after she won back to back the US Open (2018) and the Australian Open (2019). However, later it was the moment of another inspiring youngster, Bianca Andreescu, to impress after she won the US Open last year.

Both players were a huge example for the new generation and after winning Melbourne, Sofia revealed:

“[Seeing Osaka and Andreescu winning a slam] was a motivation, and my dad was telling me it was great for them and you can really achieve this, such a young age that they achieved it. My dad said just play and fight for every match that you’re playing, and anything is possible. The deeper you go, anything can happen.”

Now ranked no.7 (career-high), Kenin played her last match on the 1^st of February when she overcame Garbine Muguruza 4-6 6-2 6-2 in the final of the Australian Open to win her 4^th career title.

At the moment, this season Sofia has a 9-2 win-loss record. Kenin conquered 1 title at the Australian Open.

Naomi Osaka’s ranking and performance in 2020

Ranked world no.10, Naomi played her last match on the 24^th of January when she had to bow to Cori Gauff 6-3 6-4 in the 3^rd round of the Australian Open.

Naomi Osaka’s best performance of this season was getting to the semi-finals in Brisbane.

Sofia Kenin and Naomi Osaka played each other 3 times. The head to head is 2-1 for Osaka.
