Why Djokovic is happy to play vs. Zverev or Thiem in the Australian Open final. VIDEO

Novak welcomes a new opposition

Djokovic and Zverev

Novak Djokovic has just reached the Australian Open final to have a shot at winning his 8th title in Melbourne. The Serbian sensation will face an “uncharacteristic” opponent in the final as Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev are battling on the other side of the draw to reach the final act of this major. Novak is more used to play the “old generation” in the final, but he welcomes the new opposition. In the press conference that followed his victory over Roger Federer, the world no.2 commented:

“The younger players now coming up and challenging us oldies to get to the Grand Slam finals. It’s happening already. You’re going to have Dominic or Sascha in the final. It’s inevitable it’s going to happen more frequently in the future. I think it’s good for the sport. I’m going to try my best to prolong their domination in the Grand Slams as much as possible. I’m sure Roger and Rafa would agree.”
