2013 resolution: Murray swears to stop cursing!

“What the #$%^$# !”

It may happen on court, but it is a bit more disgraceful when that happen during a slam final when the entire tennis community (and maybe the Queen!) is watching you.

Cursing is a big problem for top players for different reasons. First it gives a bad image to the player, second it gives some negativity to the entire match and the sport (some McEnroe die-hard would disagree with that), third it releases some energy that could be redirect for a more useful purpose (winning the next point?).

Federer and Nadal

Federer is a master at keeping his cool. He was pretty wild when he was a young teenager to completely reverse his attitude as he was progressing in professional tennis. Toni Nadal always reminds Rafa to “keep a straight face”.

Murray

Murray is still far from Federer and Nadal self control as his huge passion for the game at time takes the better over his (good) manners.

So the resolution for 2013 is to get rid of this habit even if he maintains that swearing is common also to other players, but they can’t be understood in a foreign language

“Obviously, me saying s*** or whatever is bad and wrong, and it’s something I want to try to stop doing. But it isn’t as bad as some of the stuff the foreign players come out with. I wouldn’t want to name any names but some of what they say is ghastly.

“It’s just that all of the umpires speak English.”

Time to learn Chinese?

Here some Murray’s tirades!

Getting wild during the recent US Open final

Andy getting crazy in Rome (this is actually funny as Andy won that point!)

Cursing his own coach at the Australian Open. To be fair Bartoli did something worse against his on father and coach to say him to leave the tennis court during a Wimbledon match. Rafa could never do that to his uncle has he would have been punished by his family for at least one month (no supper?;-)

A ball boy fights back (unfortunately)… a “bit unprofessional” too…

Some other tirades…. So it’s not only about Andy!!!… Do not miss Del Potro throwing his shoes to the crowd or … something weird at 5.06s.
