Why Muguruza’s coach Conchita Martinez is so happy about partnering again with the Spaniard

Conchita is extremely pleased about the work she is doing with Garbine

Garbine Muguruza and her coach Conchita Martinez have an exciting story together. In fact, Conchita helped Garbine to win the Wimbledon title in 2017 and for some reason they didn’t continue to work together.

Garbine kept on partnering with her coach Sam Sumyk (they started in 2015), but things didn’t go that well as they used to have a rather dysfunctional relationship. Eventually, the Spaniard decided to split with Sam and to hire Conchita as her full-time coach. From that moment, things started to go gloriously for Garbine that is now in the Australian Open semifinal playing great tennis.

Talking about Garbine’s performance, Conchita commented:

“There was a lot of time actually to work on things, on things that were needed. And I think the results are here. It’s very nice to see things that you been working in pre-season, and you see her on the court; she’s doing these things.

She’s very, very aggressive as she was when she was playing her best tennis. Physically, I see her very well. She’s getting to the balls early enough. You can see she’s holding her ground really well, accelerating, finishing at the net a lot. That’s always nice to see. Things like that that you can see a little bit more and more.”
