At 15 years of age, Coco Gauff is achieving the unthinkable after reaching another 2nd week at a slam at the Australian Open after she did the same during the last Wimbledon. This feat also happened after she went through a tough draw and following straight-sets wins over Venus Williams and Naomi Osaka. The teenager also impressed after she won the 2nd round against Sorana Cirstea after recovering from a 0-3 deficit in the 3rd set.
Gauff and Rod Laver
Soon after defeating Naomi Osaka on the Rod Laver Arena, she was asked if she actually met the great Australian. Gauff commented:
“I love it down here, oh my gosh! Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. I’m on the Rod Laver Arena! I can’t believe it! I’ve walked past Rod Laver a couple of times in the hallway but I’ve never said hi because I am too nervous. If he sees this, tell him we can set up a meeting sometime. I need a selfie for Instagram!”
The great Rod didn’t hesitate to answer tweeting: “Hello @CocoGauff – congratulations on your incredible victory tonight. I would love to meet you too.”
