Charles Barkley gives his nomination for Sports Illustraded Sportsman of the year and that is Andy Murray.
“I always root for the guys who have not won a championship because you hate to see guys on that list – and I would know,” he said.
“I call it the ‘shit list’. You hate to see great players who don’t win the title because every year they bring up all those same names.
“I’ve been watching Murray bust his hump over the last couple of years. The perception was he had let his country down.To finally see him win a major at the US Open was incredible. I know he won at the Olympics.
“The Olympics are awesome and I’ve also won an Olympic medal; I have always said the coolest thing for me ever was when they played the national anthem after we won gold. But I’m not silly enough to think that’s the same as winning a world championship.”
