Serena is world no.3… isn’t she? Yes… because Vika Azarenka has more WTA points and she was more consistent in 2012, but head to head between Serena and Vika in 2012 is an embarrassing 5-0 for Serena (10-1 in terms of sets… ups…)
Azarenka is at the top of the rankings and she was the better player in the season, but Serena seems to be the strongest. For this reason she has been nominated as the WTA player of the year by a vote of international tennis media members.
The fourth time
This has been the fourth time when Serena had this honour after 2002, 2008, 2009. The only players that achieved this honor more times are Steffi Graf (8 times) and Martina Navratilova (7 times)

At the latest Championship in Istanbul Serena said
“I’ve always said if I’m playing well and doing everything right, it’s really difficult to beat me. I still believe that, which is great that I can still kind of play that way.
“I feel like there are always ways for me to improve, but I think it’s a true statement, without trying to sound really full of myself or anything.”
