Alexander Zverev has pledged to donate Aus $4.12 million to the bushfire relief effort aimed at supporting those affected by the recent ravaging bushfires in Australia. This latest predicament led to the displacement of homes and death to not only wildlife but also human beings. The disaster captured the attention of many people prompting a section of organizations and individuals to come in and lend a helping hand. Among the support offered include donations, support messages, rescue, and recovery operations. The likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams and Nick Kyrgios also donated for the Bushfire relief.

Tennis players have been pretty much engaged in contributing to the bushfire relief efforts. Nick Kyrgios kick-started the campaign by promising to donate $200 per ace to this bushfire fund drive. He was joined by the likes of Serena Williams, who donated her entire ASB Classic tournament prize money to this cause. The 23 Grand Slam winner also took part in the RallyforRelief tournament alongside Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, and Caroline Wozniacki.

The event was aimed at donating funds for the bush relief efforts. A total of $4 million was raised from this event ahead of the Australian Open. Federer, Nadal, and Nick Kyrgios donated $250,000 together. The occasion saw Federer beat Kyrgios in front of a crowd of at least 15,000 fans.

Alexander Zverev off to a great start in the Australian Open

The German has experienced a tough build-up process ahead of the Australian Open. He started the 2020 tennis season with a spectacular crash in three consecutive singles matches in the ATP Cup.

Nevertheless, he seems to have already put his poor initial run behind him. He began the Aussie Open by beating Marco Cecchinato  6-4, 7-6(4), 6-3. However, the Italian tennis player was participating in this tournament with a series of poor performances under his belt.

Marco Cecchinato came into the tournament on a seven-match losing streak according to his grand slam tournament track record. His last win occurred in the quarterfinals of the 2018 French Open against Novak Djokovic.  But, for Zverev, it is a fantastic start if indeed he is serious about winning this Grand Slam title and donating the tournament prize money to the bushfire relief. This first win also means he will contribute $10,000 towards the bush relief drive, a gesture he pledged to do for every match he wins during the entire Australian Open.
