Querrey aims to be the American top player

Sam Querry is on the map again and he might help to lift the American tennis in 2013(talking about men).

2012 for USA

2012 was a strange year for his country with a “sad” retirement (Roddick), a good start from Big Jonnhy Isner (that has reached the top 10 to lose a couple of positions), the partial resurrection of Bryan Baker, the weird health problems of Mardy Fish and finally a strong comeback of Sam Querrey (Harrison is still somewhere else…).

2012 FOR QUERREY

Sam had a good season winning Los Angeles (250atp) and Sarasota (a challenger) and to reach the quarters in Bercy. In Paris he had also a good win against a drained Djokovic. (drained.. but still dangerous)

This helped him to claim to the 22nd spot of the ATP rankings from the 93th of last year’s end.

2013

Now Sam aims at becoming the American no.1 in 2013 and why not… maybe he can break the top 10!

“The second half was outstanding. Every tournament was good. I didn’t really take a bad loss. I’m hoping to have the first half of next year be like the second of this year.”

“I’m definitely focused. Well, I’m not focused and motivated at the moment, but after I get on the practice court I’m going to be really ready and focused for 2013. I just have to believe and be sound in my game plan of taking cuts at returns, especially on second serves. I have to be more intimidating and go at guys more. When a ball is there to be hit, hit it every time. I want to stick to a game plan; whether it works or not, I’ll be happy at the end of the match.”

ABOUT BEING AMERICAN NO.1

“It would mean a lot to me, I want to do it off of my good results, by going deep at the Masters events and Slams, not off the other guys not doing well. I don’t want to be the U.S. No. 1 ranked 22nd because other guys fell off in the rankings.”, said Sam
