PREDICTION. Djokovic, not Nadal is the AO favorite. Then Federer and Tsitsipas according to Mats Wilander

Novak Djokovic will be hoping to make it 8 Australian Open titles won by him.

Djokovic favorite over Nadal at the Australian Open

According to Mats Wilander, he believes that Novak Djokovic is well-poised to win the Australian Open. He is convinced that the conditions won’t favour Rafael Nadal, who is dubbed to be his most significant threat. In fact, he lost the much-coveted ATP rank to Rafa towards the end of last season.

Novak Djokovic will be hoping to make it 8 Australian Open titles won by him. Currently, he is the all-time record holder of men’s singles titles won in this tournament that will be held in Melbourne. And Mats Wilander believes that the Serbian will achieve another milestone in this showpiece. If then that prediction by the seven-time Grand Slam winner comes to pass, it means Djokovic will also take his tally of grand slams won to 17.

“Novak Djokovic has won the Australian Open seven times, and I think he’s the big favourite once again,” he said.

Rafael Nadal considered as second favourite

Mats Wilder is convinced that Rafael Nadal is the second favourite to win the Australian Open. The current number one will obviously fight to keep his position at the top of the ATP rankings hence winning Aussie Open is a priority. After the  Spaniard, Roger Federer, Stefano’s Tsitsipas and Daniel Medvedev are other tennis players who also stand a chance to win the tournament. Nick Kyrgios is regarded by the Eurosport analyst, Mats Wilder as a tennis player who will enjoy a long run considering he will be playing Infront of a significant section of home fans.

Unfortunately for Nadal, he might struggle during the Australian Open. The tournament will be played on the fastest hard courts which does not favour the Spaniard. With such a possible occurrence in the offing, Novak Djokovic’s chances of winning the first Grand Slam this season in the men’s singles are significantly high. However, that does not mean that Nadal can’t clinch this title. For him, it is a priority considering he is aiming to win his 20th Grand Slam to match Federer’s current record.
