By the end of the last season, Dayana Yastremska announced that she was hiring Sascha Bajin as her coach. The German has a fantastic pedigree, and he was pivotal for Naomi Osaka’s success. Unfortunately, things went south between Sascha and Naomi, and eventually the Japanese dumped him for unknown reasons. Later, Bajin coached Kristina Mladenivic for a brief period of time also with good results and he is widely expected to help Dayana to go to the next level in 2020.
The Ukrainian had a false start in Brisbane where she lost to Kiki Bertens in the opener. However, she is having an impressive run in Adelaide especially in the semifinal, when she defeated an in-form Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets.

Dayana is projected to gain at least 3 places in the rankings after this week to be the new world no.21 (career-high). However, she will break in the top20 if she wins the title in Adelaide to be the new world no.18.
