Why Federer thinks that Nadal and Djokovic will win more slams than him

At the moment, the Swiss has 20 Grand Slams, followed by Rafael Nadal, who has 19, then Novak Djokovic with 16.

Federer interview

Roger Federer is very certain that either Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal or both will, at some point, win more Grand Slams than him. He even goes on to suggest that there is a possibility of that feat being achieved this year. For Federer, he is contented with finishing at position three in the ATP world rankings considering the cut-throat competition from his worthy competitors.

The Swiss made this confession while at a recent interview hosted by The Associated Press. “I think the way it’s going, obviously, Rafa and Novak will win more,  because they’re that good. And the season they had (in 2019), again, shows that there is more to come for them,” he said. Surprisingly he never seemed to be moved by the possibility of anyone matching or surpassing his number of Grand slams won. He believes that it will soon happen and there is no two way about it.

“Now, at the end, if somebody else would pass you, I mean, I guess it’s OK because that’s what sports is all about. It’s a lot about numbers. It’s a lot about records,” he admitted.

Nadal and Djokovic’s desire to win more Grand Slams

At the moment, the Swiss has 20 Grand Slams, followed by Rafael Nadal, who has 19, then Novak Djokovic with 16. However, with these numbers set to change soon, tennis enthusiasts will be hoping to see how things pan out.

Both Rafa and Novak have publicly declared their desire to win more Grand slams than Federer. After winning last year’s confirmed his interest in matching the Swiss’ record. He said, “I do want to definitely focus myself on continuing to improve my game and maintaining the overall well-being that I have — mental, physical, emotional — so I would be able to compete at such a high level for the years to come, and have a shot at eventually getting closer to Roger’s record.” Whereas Rafael Nadal admitted that he wants to be the one who ends up winning more majors won.

Next-Gen To soon replace the current regime

Roger Federer also suggested that soon a new face will win a Grand Slam title. He is convinced that the next generation lot of players has whatever it takes to pull off such a masterclass. The Swiss also insisted that in the near future, someone else will come up and win more Grand Slams than him, Nadal and Djokovic.
