Serena Williams has always been a huge example of the new generation and it’s always an honor for the young guns to share the court with her. Amanda Anisimova is for sure one of the brightest prospects of American tennis and she had the opportunity to face the former world no.1 in the semifinal in Auckland. Eventually, Serena made a meal of her to win 6-1 6-1 in no time, but there was a great exchange at the net.
While Amanda was extremely gracious in defeat, the 38-year-old shared great words for Amanda soon after the match to say: “I played well today. And I like her a lot; I don’t know exactly why. I think she’s a sweet person; I like her and her mother. I knew what happened to her, and I understand how she feels because I also lived something similar, and I admired her before that [Serena lost a half-sister in a dramatic shooting]. She will be part of the future of American tennis and has a great attitude on the court.”
Later Amanda retweeted: “Can’t even begin to say how much hearing this means to me. Great experience here for me yesterday. I can learn a lot from this”
