Serena Williams has always been a huge example of the new generation and it’s always an honor for the young guns to share the court with her. Eventually, Serena made a meal of her to win 6-1 6-1 in no time, but there was a great exchange at the net.

While Amanda was extremely gracious in defeat, the 38-year-old shared great words for Amanda soon after the match to say: “I played well today. And I like her a lot; I don’t know exactly why. I think she’s a sweet person; I like her and her mother. I knew what happened to her, and I understand how she feels because I also lived something similar, and I admired her before that [Serena lost a half-sister in a dramatic shooting]. She will be part of the future of American tennis and has a great attitude on the court.”

Later Amanda retweeted: “Can’t even begin to say how much hearing this means to me. Great experience here for me yesterday. I can learn a lot from this”
