Djokovic, Murray qualify for the 2012 WTF semifinals- Youtube

We had two identical results in the last 2 matches of the Group A. Nole takes the first spot of the group, Andy the second (no surprise about that isn’t it?).

So, the likely scenario is that Murray will take on Federer in the semis and Djokovic plays Ferrer, unless Roger is upset by Delpo.

Djokovic – Berdych 6-2 7-6 (6)

It took 97 minutes for Nole to win in straight sets, but it wasn’t easy.

The first set was smooth with the Serb breaking Berdych twice and win 29 points vs 19. The key point was Berdych not serving well so as to give a good life to Djokovic.

The second set was a close affair as Berdych regained his service games. The Czech got an important 3-0 lead in the tiebreak to then have 3 set points when he was 6-3 up. Then Tomas choked (something that happens too often) to miss 3 easy ground strokes and to lay the ground for Djokovic to win the second set.

“I just try to have a simple thinking, fight every point that I have,” said Djokovic. “Guess it works sometimes. Sometimes it doesn’t work. I’m glad it worked today.”

Murray – Tsonga 6-2 7-6 (3)

It took 96 minutes for Andy to dispatch Tsonga and qualify for the semis. The match was similar to the Djokovic-Berdych one (at least in the result and the duration)

In the first set Murray broke Tsonga twice to have an early 4-0 lead (in 20 minutes!) and then win a comfortable opener by 6-2. 

In the second Tsonga did step up to surrender only at the tiebreak. Jo had a set point on Murray’s service when the score was 5-6 advantage Tsonga, but the Frenchman could not react to a good body serve.

“In some ways, feels like you’re serving for the match when you know you’re through if you win that,” said Murray. “I was very focused from the start of the match. I got off to a good start.”
