Ekaterina Alexandrova prevails over Elena Rybakina 6-2 6-4 in the final in Shenzhen on Saturday.

1st set.

Alexandrova conquered a commanding position in the outset to break Rybakina in the 1st game (1-0) before consolidating her break and lead 4-0. Nonetheless, the set was not over yet and there was more work to do for the Russian to win the set because the Kazakhstani found the way to break back in the 6th (2-4) game. Ekaterina kept her focus to break Rybakina in the 7th (5-2) game before winning the set (6-2).

Rybakina lost the 3rd game (3-0) when she had a strong 40-0 lead while on serve.

An important stage of this contest was when Alexandrova won 4 consecutive games in the 1st set to change the scoreline from 0-0 to 4-0.

2nd set.

Alexandrova had a boost of confidence at the beginning of the set after breaking Rybakina in the 1st game (1-0). Nevertheless, that wasn’t sufficient for Ekaterina to win the set as Elena managed to break back in the 2nd (1-1) and in the 6th (4-2) game. The Russian kept her focus to break Elena in the 7th (3-4) and in the 9th (5-4) game before conquering the set (6-4).

Rybakina was dominated in the last 4 games of the set (from 2-4 to 6-4).

At the end of the match, Ekaterina scored 69 points vs. Rybakina’s 52 points.

Alexandrova won this match even if she wasn’t that great in converting her break points since she converted only 40% (6/15). On the other side, Rybakina was effective in converting 75% of the break points that she conquered points (3/4). Yet, that was not enough to win the contest.

After the match, the Russian commneted: “The whole week was pretty good for me, I think, right from the start. It wasn’t easy but I did it until the end. I won my first title, and it feels amazing. The first one is always special. I was playing my second final, and the first one  wasn’t so good for me, so I was trying to get this one.”
