Coco Gauff endeared herself to tennis fans even more after a cute exchange with her father went viral. During Gauff’s ASB Classic match against German player Laura Siegemund, she called out her father Cori for saying “damn” during the break. Cori tried to give his daughter advice on how to best attack her opponent in the tennis court. Coco was then about to go on her second set with Siegemund.

Coco told him gently that he should not curse. He denied at first but then he later apologized for swearing.

Coco Gauff fails to reach ASB Classic quarterfinals

Despite being one of the most popular players in the roster, Coco Gauff was not able to qualify for the quarterfinal round of the ASB Classic.

World no. 73 Siegemund defeated Gauff 5-7 6-2 6-3 on Thursday, in what has been hailed as one of the tournament’s thrilling games so far. Gauff prevailed during the opening set but had to bow down to Siegemund’s slices and dropshots.

Because of her loss, Gauff was unsuccessful in qualifying for the quarterfinals. She will have to settle with having more time to prep for the upcoming Australian Open.

Gauff on the Williams sisters

Coco Gauff has always been vocal about how much the Williams sisters inspired her. The tennis star calls the Williams sisters her heroes. During the times that they have been together in one place, she tells them how much they have inspired her career path. She even credits Serena for motivating her to become a tennis player.

Because of her massive admiration of the prominent sisters, it was a thrill for Gauff to face Venus Williams in Wimbledon’s opening round last year. It was the fact that she defeated a tennis icon 24 years her senior that brought media attention to her in the first place.

Gauff would have had the chance to face off with another Williams if she won against Siegemund. That would have been another dream come true for the 15-year old American.

Gauff’s friendship with Serena Williams

Over the past year, Serena Williams and Coco Gauff have developed a close relationship. Last month, Williams and Gauff were seen together in a training camp in Florida. The two players, who share French-Greek trainer Patrick Mouratoglou as coach, were preparing for the first few tournaments of 2020.

In a few Twitter pictures and videos, Gauff and Williams were seen enjoying a party. In one clip, they even show their impressive dance moves in front of the camera. Fitness influencer Shaun T, tennis player Chris Eubanks, and DJ Bob Sinclar were also in attendance.
