Angelique Kerber wins Wimbledon!

There has been so much talk in the last few weeks about the likes of Serena Williams and Simona Halep that Angelique Kerber’s run in Wimbledon went completely under the radar.

The German had an amazing fortnight at SW19 to drop just 1 set on the way to the final dismissing in straight sets dangerous players such as Naomi Osaka and an in-form Jelena Ostapenko.

The final

Even if Angelique was 2-6 down in head to head matches against Serena, she knew she had a shot at the American that has regained a good form, but she is still not at her peak.

Serena tried her best to counter her opponent, also trying to intimidate her with some grunts, massive shots and stunning serves, but she couldn’t find consistency, and eventually, it was Angelique to win the encounter 6-3 6-3 in just 66 minutes.

The disappointments of 2017 the key to winning Wimbledon. KERBER

After the match, Angelique said that coping with a disappointing 2017 was the key to win the Championships to comment

“I think without 2017 I couldn’t win this tournament. I think I learned a lot from last year, with all the expectation, all the things I go through. I learned so many things about myself, about the things around, how to deal with this, how to make my day schedule.

You have to go through all the things, the good things, the bad things, and then you need to learn. If you do it one, two, three times, you are getting better in these things.”

Angelique has now 12 titles and 3 slams under her belt. That’s not a bad ratio!
