Incredible Janowicz upsets Tipsarevic to reach the 2012 semifinal in Paris

Incredible stuff in Paris! We headlines are not about 2 French players reaching the semifinals, but about a relatively unknown Polish qualifier that is upsetting one top player after the other.

Janowicz came straight from the qualifications to defeat Kohlschreiber, Cilic, Murray and now Tipsarevic. It can’t be by chances!

The 21 years old is playing a really magnificent and exciting tennis to alternate brutal power with “uahuu” shots (look the one above).

The Match

Janowicz didn’t start well. He was nervous, unfocused and looked tired to lose the first 3 games in 7 minutes (!!!). Then the match became normal with Tipsarevic basically holding his serve till the end of the set.

The second and the third set were completely different as Janowicz was in full control to win 10 games out of 12. So Tipsarevic found himself 4-1 (and 2 breaks) down in the decider to retire due to dizziness.

From Janowicz

“In the second and third set I just played the best tennis of my life,” said Janowicz. “I didn’t know actually I can play that good. It’s really not easy for me to realise what is going on in my life right now. Right now I’m playing the best tennis of my life, and I hope tomorrow I can play even better. I don’t know what I should expect from myself, but I hope I will not finish tomorrow this tournament yet.”

Next with Simon

Janowicz will play Simon in the next match (he defeated Berdych 6-4 6-4). In the other semifinal Ferrer (def. Tsonga 6-2 7-5) will play home favorite Michael LLodra that defeated Querrey 7-6(4) 6-3.

The 21 years old started the season as world no.221 and if he loses he will be ranked around 39. A great run, especially if you consider that this guy couldn’t play the Australian Open because he didn’t have the money to get there!

Super, great stuff!
