Haase upset Zverev in Cincinnati

Robin Haase performs the biggest upset of this ATP1000 in Cincinnati after beating Sascha Zverev in the 2nd round.

Robin started pretty well the match against the German after he broke him in the very first game. Then Sascha won 4 consecutive games (4-1), and it seemed as he was ready to sail through this match.

However, after Zverev won the opener (7-5), things got complicated for him in the second set after Haase conquered 4 consecutive games (4-0) to secure a strong lead and win the second set 6-4.

In the decider, Zverev was immediately broken in the 1st game, but he recovered that deficit after Haase dropped his service game (4-4). However, the German wasn’t perfect soon after to lose the decisive break in the 11th game and Robin clinched the contest after 2 hours and 25 minutes. The result was 5-7 6-4 7-5.

You need to be a bit lucky against these guys. HAASE

After the match, Robin commented

“Physically, mentally, and game-wise I was there. We have to be a little bit lucky, as well, against these top guys. Nowadays against Top 10, 20 and maybe Top 50 players, you have to be a little bit lucky.

But I think I played well. Today my returns were really, really good. I think the first serve he hit at me was 136mph and I just hit it right back. I was good from my side.”

Haase will face Pablo Carreno Busta in the 3rd round.
