Drained Djokovic upset by Querrey – 2012 Paris – Youtube

Another bad day for the 2012 ATP in Bercy. The tournament has already bene deprived by Rafa, Roger  to lose Nole in his first match.

Djokovic was already struggling for some reasons. First his father is badly struggling with a form of SARS that made Nole going back and forth to Serbia in last few days. Second he is also struggling for some kind of illness. Yesterday it wasn’t a a good one for him.

The Match

Strange, very strange. Nole started winning 8 straight games to lead 6-0 2-0 in absolutely no time. The statistics of the first set were just impressive with Querrey winning only 36% of the point on his 1st serve and 14% (or 1 out of 7) on the second. The first set lasted 20 minutes!

Then Nole imploded giving the opportunity to a “good” Querrey to fight back and win the 2nd set at the tiebreak. The American blasted 10 aces in 6 service games only in the second set!

In the third, the American broke Djokovic in the 5th game to have an epic hold when he was 4-3 up (he saved 5 break points, 2 of them with a couple of aces). The decider ended 6-4.

From Nole

“Sam played very well, served very well,” said Djokovic.

Talking about his condition “I’d rather not talk about it. Sorry about that, but it’s just private and I’d like to keep it that way,” he said. “Some things happened and a lot of things are on my mind…, so right now I just need a couple of days’ rest before London.”

From Sam

“It was a little embarrassing. I walked over to where Casey, my physio/chiropractor sits with my girlfriend and Casey’s wife, and I said, ‘I hope I can get two games in this set.’  the America said

“Once I got the two games I kind of settled down. I was like, ‘Okay, that’s all I want.’ But then I got rolling and got more confidence and started serving better and being a little more aggressive.”

Good stuff from Sam and all the best to Nole and his family!
