Stefanos Tsitsipas had a fantastic 2019 especially after he conquered the ATP Finals. The Greek sensation also did something special as he was the man that gave the first and the last defeat of the official season to Roger Federer. The Greek surprised the Maestro in the 4th round of the Australian Open and the semifinal in London after he conceded just 7 games.
Marcos Baghdatis is a great friend of Stefanos and he was even caught getting emotional soon after Tsitsipas defeated Dominic Thiem in the O2 Final. Even if Marcos is not coaching Stefanos, he is also a sort of mentor for him.
During a recent interview, the Cypriot made a comparison between Stefanos and Roger to comment: “Stef reminds me a little bit of Roger when he was younger. What has helped him is that all the top guys are going through the same things as he is, the same problems, life challenges, and that has made him relax a bit and bring back his confidence.”
Tsitsipas and his Instagram and Twitter activity
Stefanos is well known for using (or over-using) social media. However, a few months ago, he took the decision to stay out of it to get more focused on tennis and the people that he really cares about. However, during the offseason, Tsitsipas went back to the old habit for the happiness of his fans.
Marcos commented: “He’s won London so nobody can tell him anything and once the new season starts I’m sure he will get off social media and prepare well. I think he has dealt with it perfectly, but I also think that he can sometimes over-analyze situations too much at times. The most important thing in life is to ask questions, to be the best at what you are and that is what he is doing. I think he is doing it well.
Stefanos is about to start the new season in Brisbane, where he will play the ATP Cup for Greece. He will face a tough group as he will be opposed to Canada, Germany, and Australia. However, even if he is so keen on playing for his country, his real focus will be on winning the Australian Open hoping that conquering his first slam won’t become an obsession.
