David made it once again! After winning in 2008 and 2010, the home favorite wins the title in Valencia also this year against a very tricky Dolgopolov.

This is Ferrer’s 6th title in 2012 and the 17th of his career.

The match was decided in the 7th and 8th game of the third set. In fact, on a 3-3 scoreline David recovered a 15-14 deficit on his service game to produce the hot shot of the day (video) and to then break Dolgopolov in the next game. Then David hold nerves to win his service game and the set (6-4)

The match lasted 1 hour and 49 minutes.

From Ferrer

“It’s always very difficult to play at home,” said Ferrer. “I knew it would be more difficult to win the title again. He’s a very talented opponent. I played aggressively and it went well for me. I want to dedicate the victory to Juan Carlos Ferrero on his farewell. He has given me the opportunity to grow as a person and as a player.”

From Dolgopolov

“I couldn’t take advantage of my opportunities in the third set,” said Dolgopolov. “He took his chances and broke my serve with new balls. I’m happy to have reached the final, but maybe today I played worse. I enjoyed the tournament a lot.”
