Bianca Andreescu talks about her knee injury, surgery, rehabilitation and when she will be back on court

Bianca Andreescu had an enormously successful 2019 after she won 3 prestigious titles in Indian Wells, Toronto and at the Us Open. The Canadian sensation played yet a lot of tennis this year and her body was battered by many injuries. Bianca had to stay out of competitions for long after she withdrew from Miami with a problem to her right shoulder. Later she won the Rogers Cup struggling with an issue to her right leg. Unfortunately, during the WTA Finals, Bianca got injured to her back and knee to also withdraw from the competition.

Andreescu, the knee issue, and the rehabilitation

Bianca had to withdraw during her second match in Shenzhen when facing Karolina Plsikova. The Canadian heard “a crack” in her knee and she confirmed that she was battling with bending the knee. Everything looked to point to a problem to her meniscus, an issue that is usually dealt with a “light” operation.

However, talking to the reporters during a recent interview, even if she declined to give specific details, Bianca revealed that she doesn’t need surgery and she is also satisfied with her rehabilitation. Bianca commented: “Well, I don’t need surgery, so I wouldn’t say it’s very bad. I can’t really say much about it. I’m just trying to rehab as much as possible and stay as positive as I can.”

Finally, Bianca revealed that she will be training on-court next week after spending 7 weeks in total away. The Canadian also added that she aims at becoming the new world no.1, but she needs to reinforce her body to achieve that.

Ranked no.5, the Canadian played her last match on the 30th of October when she had to retire when playing against Karolina Pliskova in the Round Robin and the scoreline was 6-3 .

This year Bianca Vanessa has a 46-7 win-loss record. The Canadian clinched 4 titles in 2019 in the Newport Beach, in Indian Wells, in Toronto and at the U.S. Open. Andreescu was the finalist in Auckland.
