The German player has announced that he is recovering from surgery.

Alexander Zverev has given his fans an update on the recent eye surgery he went through in New York, telling them that he is on recovery.

The German player, who suffered from astigmatism, took advantage of the month-long break between tennis seasons to get his eyes fixed. Through a video message on his Instagram, he told his fans not to worry about him.

He assured them that he will make sure to get back into practice mode as soon as he can. He also told fans that he looks forward to impressing them when he shows up for the Australian Open and its pre-events in January.

The world no. 7 revealed that he was suffering from the health issue earlier this year. It was right that he would be concerned about his vision. Astigmatism is characterized by an imperfect curvature of the eyes, which affects the eyesight.

The 22-year old tennis player is coming off a rough year in his tennis career. He did well in the Australian Open, reaching the fourth round of the year’s first Grand Slam. He then followed it up with a runner-up finish in the Mexican Open.

After that, he clearly struggled, exhibiting a dismal showing in the six tournaments between the Mexican Open and the Madrid Open. He also had another gloomy streak during the grass court season, only reaching the quarterfinals of the Halle Open.

Zverev also continued his inability to win in the Grand Slam competitions, even exiting in the first round of Wimbledon. Because of his grim performance, he fell out of the world top five for the first time in around two years.

In fact, he only won one ATP title in the entire year. This was a far cry from 2018 when he won four ATP tournaments, including the prestigious ATP World Tour Finals.

Sasha partly attributes his struggles this year to the legal dispute he faced with former agent Patricio Apey. The two separated professionally earlier this year. According to reports, however, Apey alleges that their contract is supposed to end by 2023.

Zverev’s 2020 plans

Even with his challenges, the German player still did well in 2019. A lot of fans anticipate that he will be in top shape in 2020.

Zverev memorably bounced back in the last quarter of the year. He is said to have delivered one of the best tennis matches of the year with his win over idol Roger Federer in the Shanghai Masters.

He and Federer also embarked on a Latin American exhibition tour in November. In their Mexico City stop, the pair broke the world record for the largest attendance to a tennis game with 42,000 spectators.

The German player has also released his provisional schedule for the 2020 tennis season. He is set to participate in all the Grand Slams. Other major tournaments that he is set to attend are the Miami Open, the Laver Cup, and Paris Masters.
