The Spaniard and the Russian agreed to compete in the upcoming Mubadala World Tennis Championship that will take place next week and they might clash against each other in the semifinal. Daniil will take on Hyeon Chung in the first match and if he wins, he will face the world no.1.

On the other part of the draw, Stefanos Tsitsipas will challenge Gael Monfils and the winner will play against Novak Djokovic.

On the women’s side, Maria Sharapova and Amanda Anisimova will also play an exhibition match on the 19th for the delight of the local fans.

Why Medvedev was so happy to play the Mubadala World Tennis Championship

The Russian had a remarkable run in the second part of the season after he clinched 6 consecutive finals. However, his tank was completely empty at the end to lost the last 4 matches.

On accepting to compete in this prestigious event in Abu Dhabi, Daniil commented:

“I’ve heard so much about the Championship from my friends and there’s a lot of Russian support in Abu Dhabi. I know it’s also a popular holiday destination for my fellow countrymen so hopefully, I can draw on that in my first appearance.

The line-up will be very strong so it will be a good test of where I am heading into the new season as I look to build on what has been a great year for me so far. I will give my all and put on the best show possible for the spectators. I’m really looking forward to it.”
