Bad and tragic news for Aryna Sabalenka after it was reported that her beloved father Sergey passed away.
Sergey was just 44, and it is not clear the cause of death. He was hospitalized for just over a week before he was pronounced dead on the morning of the 29th of November.
Sergey was a former hockey goalkeeper and he was the one to introduce Aryna to tennis. Once Sabalenka disclosed:
“One day, my dad was just driving me somewhere in the car, and on the way, he saw tennis courts. So he took me to the courts. I really liked it and enjoyed it and that’s how it was. That’s how it started.”
Not so long ago, Aryna announced her engagement during a talk show.

Ranked no.11, Aryna played her last match on the 27th of October when she defeated Kiki Bertens 6-4 6-2 in the final in Zhuhai to win her 5th career title.
This year Aryna has a 36-21 win-loss record. Sabalenka has won 3 titles in 2019 in Shenzhen, in Wuhan and in Zhuhai. Sabalenka was the finalist in San Jose.
