Radwanska, Williams, Sharapova win their opener – 2012 TEB WTA Championships

Kvitova, Kerber and Errani couldn’t win more than 5 games in the opening match.

Radwanska – Kvitova 6-3, 6-2

It took 83 minutes for Agnieszka to defeat for the forst time Petra Kvitova. The Czeck is a horrible customer on indoor fast courts, but Radwanska’s mastery today proved to be too much for an erratic Kvitova.

“I am just happy that I could play my best tennis today and close that match in two sets,” Radwanska said. “It’s a good start.”

Williams – Kerber 6-4 6-1

Serena is back in great style. It took 78 minutes to demolish the German with her trademark tennis. This was a bit of a revenge for Serena that did lost to Angelique in the quarters in Cincinnati (6-4 6-4)

“I really wanted to win today, obviously. When you are playing anyone in the top five, you just are trying to play better,” Williams said. “She won the last time we played, so I really just wanted to do well today.”

Sharapova – Errani 6-3 6-2

Maria is on a mission. If she wins this Championship she will regain the world no.1 spot. So a super focussed Sharapova defeated  Sara in 91 minutes with a whopping 22 forehands winners.

“I mean, I wasn’t counting them, but I guess it’s a good number to have,” said Sharapova about her forehands winners . “Yeah, I mean, like I said, I don’t think I did that in the first maybe four, five games. As the match went on, I certainly felt like I needed to in order—I mean, you don’t want points going way too long against her. If that occurs, then, okay, you’ve got to be a little bit more patient. I did want to be the more aggressive one today.”
