Current world no. 4 Simona Halep has always been a private person. While she is a major media star because of her amazing performance in tournaments, she tries to keep her personal life away from the public eye. The Romanian tennis player has especially been outspoken about any incorrect rumors that have been going on around about her and her life.

One of the most persistent rumors about her is that she is engaged to be married to her boyfriend Toni Iuruc. This week, it seems Halep has finally had enough of the media spreading wrong information about her relationship.

Simona Halep reacts to engagement rumors

In a Facebook post, Halep broke her silence regarding the engagement news. She, once and for all, said that there is no truth to the rumors. She clarified that neither engagement nor a wedding is planned in the near future for her. She also said that her fans will be among the first people she will inform if she is engaged. She ended her post by saying that she is thankful for her fans’ loyal support.

According to reports, Iuric started dating Halep last year. Iuruc is a 40-year old millionaire entrepreneur from Macedonia. While he originally hails from North Macedonia, he heads six companies in Romania.

Persistent gossip about Halep’s personal life

Halep is a huge target of the tabloids in her home country of Romania. The rumors of her engagement with Iuruc reached a fever pitch when sports journalist Decebal Rădulescu reported that the couple held a lavish engagement party in the luxury seaside tourist resort of Mamaia. The party was allegedly secretive and only had important family and friends attending.

The engagement was said to be traditional, with Iuruc asking for the permission to marry Halep from her father, Stere. Stere is said to have welcomed Iuruc’s proposal under one condition: that the wedding be scheduled after next year’s U.S. Open. This is so that the Romanian can still play all four Grand Slams. Iuruc also offered a stunning engagement ring for Halep to accept.

This is not the first time that the world No.4 has been a victim to misinformation. Earlier this year, there were also reports that she had been dating former tennis star Radu Barbu. The reports were proven to be false.

Halep’s 2019 season

The false rumors are not enough to dim Halep’s amazing run in the 2019 calendar. She was able to win the 2019 Wimbledon Championships for the first time. She also maintained her top 10 ranking throughout the year, which is a huge achievement for her.
