Rafael Nadal and Roberto Bautista Agut win their singles against Canada in the Davis Cup final to give back the trophy to their team.
Spain was the overwhelming favorite to win the new edition of the Davis Cup for various reasons. First, they could count on an in-form and extra motivated Rafael Nadal. In addition, the Spanish team had rather good depth in their team with top players such as Roberto Bautista Agut (world no.9), Pablo Carreno Busta (27) and doubles specialists Feliciano Lopez and Marcel Granollers.
Rafa & C. were opposed to Team Canada that had a fantastic run, but it was carried by only 2 players: Denis Shapovalov (world no.15) and a sensational Vasek Pospisil (150). Unfortunately, Felix Auger Aliassime (21) was not able to compete for the entire week (ankle injury) with the exception of the final as Pospisil was injured.
The singles went down pretty smoothly for team Spain as they didn’t drop a single set. Bautista Agut defeated Auger Aliassime 7-6 (3) 6-3 while Nadal beat Shapovalov (6-3 7-6 (7).
