Andy Murray believes the new-look Davis Cup deserves a chance and support from all tennis enthusiasts around the world. The new format has a total of 18 teams competing for the title in Madrid, Spain. The teams are in 6 groups with the top in every group booking a chance in the quarterfinals. Furthermore, the two best runners-up will progress to the knock out stages of this competition.

The tournament matches will use the best of three match format. There will be two singles matches, and one doubles match.

Unlike other tennis players such as Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev, the Scot is confident this new format will be a success. The new changes were put in place by Kosmos, Gerard Pique’s investment company. His company acquired the rights of funding and controlling the Davis Cup tournament for the next 25 years.

“I respect that Pique is trying to do so something new and different in tennis. Tennis is not always the easiest to make changes in, and this is a big change. I hope it goes really well because, if it does, that’s fantastic fir tennis,” Andy Murray said.

The Davis Cup finals kicked off on Monday, and it will go all the way till Sunday. The Caja Magica Stadium in Madrid will hold all the matches, which is a notable change from the previous years.
