Zverev and Federer to play exhibition also in Argentina after del Potro withdrew with injury

Federer and Zverev will play a lot of matches in the days to come.

Roger Federer and Sascha Zverev

Juan Martin Del Potro keeps on struggling with his body and he will not able to face Roger Federer in Argentina to be replaced by Sascha Zverev.

The Argentine broke his kneecap back in October 2018 when he was competing in Shanghai. Later one after he was finding his way back, he broke his knee again in June at the Queen’s Club.

Juan Martin was meant to face Roger the 20th of November in Buenos Aires at Parque Roca, however, he won’t make it and he released the following statement:

“Unfortunately, I will not be able to play the match with Federer. Although I have been training hard these days, in the last few sessions I have felt that the knee is not yet in condition due to the effort required by a high-level match against the best in history. Clearly, you deserve a high-quality match and today I am not in a position to move freely and I struggle to run. So, out of respect for the effort you made to be present at the event, I think it is better to step aside, leaving my place to Zverev who will undoubtedly play a great game with Federer and you will be happy to see them express the highest level of tennis which they are capable of.

Unfortunately, although I am doing everything the doctors recommend to me, I am still unable to play. I will continue with training, rehabilitation and giving my maximum to return as soon as possible.

It has been a frustrating year in general and it was strange that it could end up differently, however, it ended like this and I will never stop thanking you for the affection, the love and all that you give me.

I would have liked to see you up close and feel all this in person, but it will be for another time. Maybe we’ll have a match as soon as possible. Enjoy a great match, the chance to see the best of history in Argentina and I send you a big hug.”

Federer and Zverev

It was obvious that Sascha will replace Juan Martin as the German will tour with Federer in Latin America and they are going to play already in other cities. Both Zverev and Federer are in the semifinals in London and there is a chance that they will face off in the final. If that happens, the loser will have many chances to have a rematch.
