Medvedev parents cannot support him vs. Nadal, Zverev because they can't get a Visa for the UK

Daniil Medvedev’s parents were left stunned after failing to secure a visa for the UK to support their son in the ongoing ATP Finals in London. The Russian was hoping that his parents will be able to be in London cheering him as he makes his debut in the ATP Finals. As things stand, his parents will be watching him right from the comfort of their home.

Speaking to Eurosport, his father said, “When I and my wife were in a tournament in Paris these days, we asked for a visa in the visa centers in Paris since we live in France. It should have been completed within October 28, nine workdays went on and still nothing.

Medvedev’s parents already had paid both air flight tickets and booked a hotel. Not getting UK visas was both a big disappointment and a waste of money for them.

The Russian is in the Andre Agassi Group alongside Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 2019 US Open runner-up started his ATP Finals campaign badly by losing 7-6(5),6-4 to Stefanos Tsitsipas. But he will be hoping to get back to winning ways in his subsequent matches. Though, he has some tough fixture against Rafael Nadal, who he has never won against.

Head to Head Medvedev vs. Nadal

Medvedev will be hoping to defeat Rafael Nadal in the ATP Finals. However, the odds are in favor of the Spaniard, who has beaten the Russian in all their previous two meetings. Daniil can take advantage of the indoor court, which Rafa does not fancy playing on.

With both having lost in their opening group matches, it is going to be a heavily contested match. Both will also plan to capitalize on the next group matches as they hunt their first-ever ATP Finals title. Besides, Nadal is still not a 100-percent fit after coming from an abdominal injury to participate in London. The Spaniard’s injury woes might give the Russian debutant an edge over him.

Head to Head Medvedev vs. Zverev

Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev have met five times with the German winning on four occasions. The German is the defending champion of this season-ending tournament. He started his campaign on the right foot by beating Rafael Nadal in his first group stage match. Zverev is in this tournament to defend the ATP Finals title he won last year. For him, every game count, hence, he will not take Medvedev for granted.
