Stefanos Tsitsipas is arguably one of the best Greek Tennis players in history. The 21-year-old had his professional breakthrough in 2018 when he made it to the Rogers Cup Final after beating four best ten players including Novak Djokovic. Fast forward, he clinched his first-ever ATP title in Stockholm, establishing himself as a hot prospect in the world of tennis.

This year, the Greek beat Roger Federer in January becoming the first tennis player from Greece to make it to the Grand Slam quarter-finals. He went on to defeat Roberto Bautista and eventually lost to Rafael Nadal in the finals of the Australian Open. But, the current world number 6 has two titles to his name this year, having won in Marseille and Estoril. He is currently participating in the ATP Finals in London.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev and Matteo Berrettini are the only debutants in this year’s ATP Finals taking place in London. The Greek is in the Andre Agassi alongside group alongside Daniil Medvedev, Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev.

Speaking ahead of the season-ending tournament he said, “Only eight players play this tournament, so it’s emotional not just for me but also for the Greek tennis. It’s something that has never happened before, I am the first Greek to be successful and am very proud about it.”

Tsitsipas on Patrick Mouratoglou’s help

Stefanos was quick to appreciate the help and support from Serena Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou. In an interview with Sdna, he said, “Patrick Mouratoglou came to support me as much as possible.” The Greek-French Tennis coach has been of much help to Tsitsipas, who captured his attention in 2014.

Speaking to ESPN.com in 2018, Mouratoglou said, “I knew he was Greek, so I was particularly interested, so I checked on YouTube. It was easy. I saw him at the Orange Bowl and immediately was impressed. I called the agent, and I said bring him to my academy for a week. I want to see him.”

Since 2014 he has been training at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy. The Greek-French coach has been working as his mentor alongside Apostolos Tsitsipas.

Stefanos Tsitsipas stuns Daniil Medvedev in his first Round Robin match

The Greek managed to get his first win against the Russian after beating him 7-6,(7-5),6-4. The two had previously met five times with Medvedev winning on all occasions. Besides, these two tennis players have been in a serious feud since their first meeting in March 2018, when the Russian complained about Tsitsipas heated handshake forcing the umpire to intervene.

After his first win playing against Medvedev, he said, “It means more than extra. Our chemistry definitely isn’t the best.”
