Djokovic to play Tsonga in the 2012 China Open final

It’s Djokovic domination in Beijing. Nole is too much for everybody. After an uncharacteristic struggle in his first match when he defeated Berrer in 3 sets (???!!!) he breezed past everybody (Berloq, Melzer and Mayer) to confirm he is playing  one of the best tennis during these days (the best?).

Tsonga is always there as he is trying to qualify for London. He is currently no.8 in the race to London and he can’t afford to lose any focus on this target.

Djokovic – Mayer 6-1 6-4

It took only 1 hour for Nole to win this one. Once again he served very well to blast 7 aces on 9 service games. The Serb was also perfect in breaking Mayer as he converted all the 3 break points conceded by the German.

“I got off to a good start,” said Djokovic. “Then I used that rhythm in the second set, which was close, obviously, but I managed to make that key crucial break at 3-3, and then I felt more comfortable.  I served well in the second set, but generally I have been playing really well throughout the whole tournament. Hopefully that can be the case tomorrow.”

“He’s been playing really well,” said Djokovic talking about Tsonga. “There’s no secrets between each other, between us. I mean, we [have] played many times, played a lot of important matches on the big stage. He’s a very powerful player, big serve, big forehand, and if that works, he can win against anybody on any surface, to be honest. So there is no clear favourite, I think, in tomorrow’s match. We have both been winning quite comfortably. It’s going to be a good final hopefully for the tournament.”

Tsonga – Lopez 6-1 4-1 ret.

Easy match for Jo that was playing fairly well even if Feliciano was not at his top. Unfortunately the Spaniard had to retire at the very end because of a left wrist injury and since he is left-handed… that is no good.

“I played really well,” said Tsonga. “I felt really good on the court. I’m just happy today with my game. I’m sure I will play good tennis in final.”

The Final

Head to head is 7-5 for Djokovic that won 5 of the last 6 matches (Nole lost the only match for W/O in last years’s Paris tournament). Djokovic is the super favorite.
