Tsitsipas: ‘I need to go through a lot of pain to beat Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal’

The 21-year-old feels that he needs to defeat the three greats to stand a chance of winning the major titles.

Tsitsipas: 'I need to go through a lot of pain to beat Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal'

Stefanos Tsitsipas will make his debut at the ATP London finals next week. The 21-year-old has had a good season after winning the Nitto Next Gen Finals last year. He has won two singles titles this year and is currently sixth in the rankings. However, the Greek player will face some tough competition in London. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic will play at the tournament.

Tsitsipas’s record when playing the ‘Big Three’

The Greek has a respectable record playing the three players. He is among the few players to record a victory over all three Grand Slam champions. The Greek has won one match against Federer. The victory came at the Australian Open where he upset the Swiss player in the quarterfinals. However, Federer has won the last two matches they have played. His latest victory was at the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors last month. After defeating the Swiss Australia, Tsitsipas lost to Nadal in the semifinals. He got his revenge over the Spaniard at the Madrid Masters. The Greek player went through to the final at Nadal’s expense. He lost to Djokovic in the final.

The 21-year-old has an even 2-2 record against the Serbian. He defeated the 32-year-old at the Shanghai Masters but lost their most recent meeting in Bercy last month. Tsitsipas knows that he will have to improve his performances against the three players to win more titles in his career. In a past interview, the 21-year-old said he needs to work hard to overcome the dominance of the Big Three. “In order to see my name among these titles, I’m going to have to go through a lot of pain and a lot of hype and struggle.” However, the current world number six says the next generation will soon dethrone the perennial challengers. “At some point, we will see change. It can’t be that Rafa, Roger, and Novak win everything.”

He will have the chance to prove his sentiments in London next week. Stefanos will play Nadal, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev in the group stages. His first match will be against Medvedev. He has fared poorly against the Russian, losing all the matches they have played in their careers. He called the 23-year-old’s game boring after his most recent loss in the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters. The two have had some bad blood in the past after Tsitsipas insulted the Russian after a match during the Miami Open.

H2H and prediction Tsitsipas vs. Medvedev

Stefanos has a rather awful 0-5 record against Daniil Medvedev (his first opponent at the Finals). However, he is confident that he will find the solution soon against the Russian.

The Prediction is still Medvedev is 2 sets.
