Sharapova, Azarenka storm into the 2012 China Open semis – Youtube

It took less than 1 hour for the 2 top seeds to breeze past their opponents. The incredible stat is that they lost an aggregate 2 games in both matches!

Sharapova – Kerber 6-0 3-0 ret.

Even if Maria played an incredible tennis, in reality  the 9-0 lead wasn’t a “fair scoreline’ as Kerber was playing not that bad. The confirmation is that Maria had to save 5 break points. So that wasn’t an utter domination. Then there was the strange decision that made Kerber to retire after calling the trainer.

“I thought we played a high level of tennis the first set and a half, there were many games that went to deuce,” Sharapova said. “I was surprised she called the trainer and even more so when she retired quickly after that.”

There was the strong impression that Angelique wanted to avoid the double bagel humilation. (there were rumours it was a problem to her ankle)

Sharapova will play Li Na in the semis  (6-4 6-2 to Radwanska). Head to head is 7-4 for Maria

Azarenka – Oprandi 6-2 6-0

Another dominant performance by the world no.1 that dismisses Oprandi in 55 minutes. This match was one way traffic with Vika winning 60 points out of 87.

Azarenka will play Marion Bartoli in the semis  (6-0 2-6 6-4 to Suez Navarro). Head to head is 8-3 for Azarenka.
