Berrettini Federer

The 2019 ATP Finals in London will start on Sunday 10th November at the 02 Arena. Matteo Berrettini is in group Bjorn Borg together with Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Dominic Thiem. The first match in this group will be between the current world number one, Novak Djokovic and the Italian. The Serbian is tipped to win the game, but Berrettini might just be planning to upset him.

How Berrettini qualified for the finals

Matteo will be making his first appearance in the ATP Finals in London. The world No.8 is set to play against Djokovic in his first group match before facing Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem in other matches.

This a dream come true for Berrettini, who in the past seven months was not even in the top 50 best-ranked tennis players in the world. But in his only second year of the ATP tours, he has won two ATP titles and reached the 2019 US Open semifinals where he lost to Rafael Nadal. Fast forward, Monfils lost to Shapovalov meaning that the Italian qualifies for this year’s ATP Finals in London.

How Djokovic qualified for the Finals

Djokovic comes into the ATP Finals in London as the second-seeded player. He is in the Bjorn Group where he is also set to play the legendary Roger Federer, the current world number three. In 2019 the Serbian has won a total of two out of four Grand Slams and will be participating in this year’s tournament after winning his fifth Paris Masters title. Besides, he is also set to battle it out with Rafael Nadal for the tennis world number one rank, currently being held by the Spaniard.

Head To Head Berrettini vs Djokovic

All odds are in favour of Novak Djokovic to win his first match against the Italian. The two are yet to meet in any tennis tournament, but the Serbian’s statistics are very impressive. Last year the Serbian did not lose any set until he met the defending champion Alexander Zverev in the finals.

Other key matches at the finals

The Andre Agassi group has the likes of Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev, and debutants Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev. Rafa is hoping to get a good result out of this tournament to boost his chances of finishing the season at the top in the ATP world rankings, a position he is currently holding.

But Rafael Nadal will not have an easy time as he aims to win his first-ever ATP Finals in London. Despite qualifying to this tournament 14 times, Nadal has only managed to participate in eight ATP Finals as a result of constant injuries before these tournaments. At the moment he is still hoping that he will be fit early enough to participate in the upcoming tennis showpiece in London. Already he has provided his fans with encouraging news concerning his injury. He hinted that he would travel to London early enough to start preparing for the tournament.

Debutants Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas will also be hoping to upset both Rafael Nadal and this tournament’s defending champion Alexander Zverev. The first match of this group will be between Tsitsipas and Medvedev, followed by Nadal vs Zverev.
